The Sensory Poem This is a poem where you use your imagination to connect abstract concepts with concrete objects. It uses the five senses to accomplish this. You create sensory images that evoke images, smells, feelings, sounds and more in your reader. Let’s see a diagram.

Smells like_____ Looks like_____ Tastes like_____ Sounds like_____ Feels like_____ Poem Theme

Example of a Sensory Poem The Lighthouse Sounds like a song Smells like the ocean Tastes like salt spray Looks like a friend and feels like a breeze.

Now prepare your own poem. Write one Sensory Poem about any topic that interests you. The theme can be abstract (love, friendship), or concrete (my child, the car, food), and the tone can be funny, serious, or mixed. Use a dictionary for help. Post your poem on the discussion board for 20 pts. (see checklist on next slide)
