EXPERIMENTAL QUESTION What are the levels of obedience between boys and girls from grades 8-12? HYPOTHESIS: We think that most people will disobey the “DO NOT ENTER” sign because there will be no actual authority around to enforce the sign. Also, the levels of obedience will decrease as the grade level gets higher.

EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN  Put up “DO NOT ENTER” signs on two doors that are used often  Casually stand around each door for 10 minutes and observe people who enter  While observing, record the number of people from each grade and gender who enter  Unsuspiciously ask unfamiliar people what grade they’re in if they are not distinguishable

INDEPENDENT, DEPENDENT, AND CONFOUNDING VARIABLES  INDEPENDENT- The doors used in the experiment and the age group and gender of the people who entered through the doors.  DEPENDENT- Whether people entered the door without pausing.  CONFOUNDING- Age, gender, amount of people, time of day, doors being used, and whether people follow their friends.

RESULTS

CONCLUSION  People do not obey signs unless there is an authority figure around to enforce it, it does not matter what grade or gender people are in  There was no grade that was more obedient, even the grade eights, which we thought would’ve been the case but we were proved wrong.  Basically nobody obeyed our sign and everybody walked through the door, like the sign wasn’t even there. The two people who did stop at the door, ended up going through too.

HYPOTHESIS AND REACTION  Our hypothesis was half right and half wrong. We found that no one was obedient, and each and every person did go through the door, it didn’t matter what grade they were in. Some people did stand and think about going through the door for a few seconds, but being in a rush to get to lunch or after seeing their friends go through the door, they went through too. We were right in the way that people didn’t listen to the sign because there was no authority around to enforce it, but we were wrong in the fact that there was a grade that was the most obedient or the least obedient. Also, when we thought the gender would matter, it actually didn’t.
