Vehicle Tracking/Payload Release System For Small UAV Project Team 02009

Project Summary ► Motivation for the Project  Advancement of RIT MAV Development ► Objectives:  Accurate Tracking of a UAV  Two-Way Wireless Communication  Autonomous Function : Drop a Payload

Project Goals ► Remotely Track the position of a vehicle. ► Collect data remotely from the vehicle. ► Automatically drop a Payload. ► Drop site selectable at Base Station. ► Design a reliable Payload Retaining/Release System. ► Confirm Payload delivery, desired target accuracy: 100ft. ► Minimum system range: 500 ft. from Base Station. ► Maximum budget: $2000.

Payload Fabrication

Payload Configuration ► The payload will be made out of a carbon-fiber shell and filled with shock absorbing foam for electronics.

Parachute Selection ► Preliminary testing of parachutes included:  36” round  30” x-form  27” x-form  24” round paper ► 30” x- form chosen for secondary testing  Less drift/oscillation  Adequate drop velocity

Range Testing ► Video  Ground testing confirmed range greater than 500ft. ► Data  Ground testing confirmed range greater than 1000ft.

GPS Test/ Simulation ► GPS tested as stand alone component ► Data from the test used to simulate flight course over ground ► GPS test helped establish a baseline for the simulation inputs

Drop Program ► Trajectory of Payload is estimated ► The position used by the simulation represents the landing position of the payload if released at that time. ► 3 conditions for drop indication:  X range  Y Range  Heading v. Target angle

Budget

Conclusion ► The Design satisfies the goals of the project. ► The design’s concepts achieve the goal of advancing MAV technology. ► System Integration is not as easy as it sounds! ► This system is a platform for further development. ► Thanks!
