STRESS UNIT To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded. Ralph Waldo Emerson

CREATE A TO-DO LIST October 24, 2011 Make a list of everything you have to do today. (should be at least 7 things) Rank them in number order of priority. (1 is most important, 7 is lease important). Estimate how long each will take. Write this beside each task. Which tasks can you dovetail? (do at the same time)

QUOTE OF THE DAY “The secret of contentment is knowing how to enjoy what you have, and to be able to lose all desire for things beyond your reach.” Yutang Lin

Write it down October 25, 2011 Writing things down makes it easier; makes it so we will accomplish all of our tasks without forgetting. Write down a list of all the things you need to accomplish this week. Think of all school assignments, projects, after school activities, home tasks/jobs. Write down when each is due (by day) beside each task. Use your agenda!

QUOTE OF THE DAY When you maintain a positive mental attitude, the problems of your world tend to bow before you. 1 of 4

From “Positive Charges” Never compare yourself with other people nor your achievements with theirs; instead, make your comparisons only with yourself. Always affirm to yourself that there is a solution to any problem and that you can find it. Appreciate life. It gives you the chance to love and to work and to play and to look at the stars. Alexander Lockhart Pg. 2 of 4

Organization October 26, 2011 Write down what tips you can come up with to keep your classes, school work, and your study time organized. What tools can you use? What one thing could you do (you aren’t doing now) that if you did on a regular basis, would make a tremendous positive difference in your life? Be prepared to share lists with the class. (pg. 3 of 4)

Keys to Organization Different colored binders or folders for each class. Keep locker organized. Have 3 hole punch to keep handouts together in binder. Date your notes and handouts. Have a space at home where you always study. Use a calendar or electronic device to keep your due dates. Keep a list (write things down) and prioritize tasks. Plan study time. Don’t wait until the last minute! Pg. 4 of 4

QUOTE OF THE DAY Imagine an eighty-foot rope stretched out before you. Each foot represents one year of your life. Teenagehood is only seven years, such a short span of rope, but those seven affect the remaining sixty-one for good or bad, in such a powerful way. Steven Covey

R.A.F.T. Oct. 27, 2011 Read, Act, File, Toss Think of your household. When mail comes in, what happens to it? Does it pile up? Suggestion for when you are living on your own: File Folders: To be paid To be filed Car, Credit Cards, Utilities, Loans, Insurance, Phone, Banking, Taxes, Receipts, Repairs, etc.

SABOTAGE October 27, 2011 Make a list of bad habits that are stealing your time, sabotaging your goals and preventing you from accomplishing tasks. What makes you procrastinate? Write down things you can do to eliminate each bad habit. Remember, the easiest way to eliminate a bad habit is to replace it with a better habit.

QUOTE OF THE DAY Why is it so important to have an end in mind? I’ll give you two good reasons. The first is that you are at a critical crossroads in your life, and the paths you choose now can affect you forever. The second is that if you don’t decide on your own future, someone else will do it for you. Sean Covey

Ways to save time October 28, 2011 TGIF Create a list of ways you can save time. Who can create the longest responsible list? (prize involved!!!) Example: Use your agenda, be prepared. Page 1 of 2

Ways to save time suggestions Keep a to-do list Break big tasks into smaller ones Organize your space Work when you are most alert Plan errands and shopping trips Establish routines Have a system or plan Use the most efficient tools for the job.

ONE FINAL THOUGHT When something bad happens you have three choices. You can either let it define you, let it destroy you, or you can let it strengthen you. Author unknown Which will you choose?
