Key messages 1.Change in your life only takes place when you are motivated to change, make a decision to change and consistently act on the information that motivated you to change. 2.Success is achieving physical, mental, emotional, social, financial and spiritual wellbeing while maximizing your potential. 3.What you have achieved is nothing compared to what you are truly capable of achieving.
Key messages Happiness in the underlying reason for our pursuit for success because it makes as feel good. Negative emotions are action signals which should neither be avoided nor indulged in but acted upon; The following things cause long lasting unhappiness:
Key messages 1.Fulfilling the desires of the flesh; 2.When something goes wrong with what is important to us 3.Having a poor self concept 4.Habitual negative thinking 5.Unresolved hurts 6.Loss of control Things that cause long lasting happiness
Key messages 1.Good health 2.Intimacy with God and other people 3.Maintaining inner stability in spite of external circumstances; 4.Habitual positive thinking 5.Growth which results from exploiting potential 6.Discovering and pursuing your purpose in life 7.Finding meaning in life 8.Making meaningful contribution to others
Ultimate Outcome of success It is not what you achieve at the end of the road of success that matters but who you become. Two major outcomes: growth and maturity We need a process to achieve a product. Two types of process: externally and internally imposed processes. No control of externally imposed processes such as death, accidents, being fired at work, etc. But you can chose attitude
Some things can only be known after going through difficult situations Ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy (Martin Luther King Jr.). Have you grown at the end of it all? Pursuit of success provides an opportunity and process for growth. Inner growth is more important than acquisition of things (1 pet 3:3-4; 2 Cor 4:4-7 Signs of growth: 1.Change in behavior 2.Level of knowledge 3.Ability to do things 4.Putting off childish behavior (1cor 13:11; Heb 5):
Growth and Maturity Are you becoming a better person; more patient, more pleasant, self controlled, wise. Are you able to with stand pressure or you integrate under pressure Or are you still that irritable, sulky, always murmuring and complaining, selfish that you were several year ago? Can somebody close to you say but you have really grown!
Evaluation Questions on Good Success 1)Have discovered what is important in life? 2)Are you are more responsible person, father, husband/wife or employee? 3)Are you now a better person than when you started your quest for success? 4)Are you fit and health or you have lost your health on wealth or success? 5) Have you discovered your purpose and meaning in life? 6)Have you achieved internal stability? 7)Are you adhering to higher values?
Conclusion To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and ensure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave a world a bit better, whether by a health child, a garden parch or a redeemed social conditions; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.
