New Trends Created by  Rise in the cost of human labor  Demand for increased productivity  Development of communication technology Leading to cost-cutting measures such as:

1. Office Automation a popular term in the 1970s and 1980s  Created by applications of computer and LAN (Local Area Network) technology  Integrates all office functions: word processing (dictation, typing) data processing (filing, fax, and telephone switchboard operations) management of electronic business information ( , graphics)

 Advantages 1.lowers operational variability 2.reduces production time and costs 3.increases manufacturing flexibility 4.eliminates human error 5.makes up for labor shortage

2. Remote receptionist/Virtual Receptionist  A remote/virtual receptionist answers your business phone lines and performs duties of routing and screening from a location outside of your business offices  Services are provided at a fraction of the cost of hiring, training, and employing a live receptionist  Bangalore, India has the largest concentration of such services

Future of receptionist Office automation and virtual receptionist may offer some alternative, but it is the person-to-person interaction that many people rely on So there is still a future for live and capable receptionists
