General Editing Commands Ctrl-O – Open Ctrl-S – Save Ctrl-A – Highlight All Ctrl-X – Cut Ctrl-C – Copy Ctrl-V – Paste Ctrl-F – Find Ctrl-H – Replace

Word Processors Let you write papers. We will use Microsoft Word Can choose –Font size, type –Bold/Indented/Underlined text. Other options can be found by clicking on double arrows like >> or <<

MS Word Can write out files formatted and in plain text. Most features can be accessed in a toolbar someplace or by opening a menu or by use of typed commands.

Features Formatting text Justification – left, right, center, full. View – Header and Footer Insert –Autotext in headers and footers –Pictures –Data from other applications like spreadsheets.

MS Excel A Spreadsheet. A grid of cells where you can place numbers and formulas and text. Useful for analyzing data. Each cell is in a certain row and column. –The rows are numbered starting at 1. –The columns are “numbered” starting with A.

Cell Contents Values – Constant numbers that can be used in calculations. Labels – Strings of text that aren’t values or value rules. Value rules – Formulas and functions that give a cell its value and can be changed when other numbers change.

Features Import formatted data. Export tables and charts. Perform calculations on data. Many pre-made functions to use. Relative and absolute names in formulas. –C4 F7 L12 are relative –$C4 F$7 $L$12 are at least somewhat absolute.

Highlighting and Copying Areas can be highlighted by mouse or by using the name box in the upper left corner. Highlight several areas by holding Ctrl. Highligting areas and then typing –Ctrl-D -- will copy down. –Ctrl-R – will copy right. Can also copy/paste using Ctrl-C Ctrl-V
