Federal Health IT Strategic Plan 1 The National Coordinator shall update and publish the Federal Health IT Strategic Plan Update in consultation with public and private partners Statutory requirement through HITECH Act

Federal Health IT Strategic Plan Outcomes 8  Sets expected 3-year & 6-year outcomes  Includes outcomes that will be measured through a mixture of quantitative metrics and regular reporting on milestones  Identifies federal agencies’ commitment to be held accountable in achieving specific outcomes

Federal Health IT Strategic Plan Implementation 9 Federal partners will convene to:  Identify which strategic activities (projects, programs, and others) will advance the Strategic Plan’s expected outcomes  Select measurement methods to evaluate whether progress towards outcomes is occurring and report publicly in annual progress report  Perform risk assessments on federal ability to achieve Plan goals and objectives  Collaborate on how to best use Strategic Plan as operational tool for budget, resource allocation, and internal planning actions

Federal Health IT Strategic Plan NEXT STEPS Public Comment Period 60-Day public comment period ends February 5, 2015 Final publication of Federal Health IT Strategic Plan in Spring 2015 Federal Advisory Recommendations Consumer Work Group to provide recommendations after January 20 meeting –Will be compiled with Strategy and Innovation Work Group recommendations after January 22 meeting to establish draft Plan recommendations and HITPC Work Plan recommendations –Draft recommendations presented to HITPC at February 10 meeting –Final recommendations presented to HITPC at March meeting HITPC provides feedback to ONC in March

Federal Health IT Strategic Plan NEXT STEPS (Continued) Federal Implementation Planning Federal partners will convene in Winter 2015 to initiate Plan Implementation –Specify agency programs that will be monitored –Determine specific metrics to track in annual publicly released progress report –Review public comments for themes and potential future actions 11

12 Federal Health IT Strategic Plan Consumer Work Group Feedback Questions for consideration:  Is there anything within the Strategic Plan and the Work Group priority crosswalk that WG members don’t agree with or feel strongly about? (feel free to send via to chairs or  Is there anything identified within the Plan or in its gap analysis that is important, but that would be better addressed by the private market than through government action?  What is important to consumers but is/may be missing from the Strategic Plan overall? (e.g., eVisits, etc.)
