01 – ICT HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE B063 – OCER Theatre

Theatre Computer Network

Point of Sale  Electronic point of sale (EPOS)  Help retailers automate transactions  Will probably have one or more systems  Connected to the theatre’s databse  Will have  Barcode scanner  Chip-and-pin card readers  Customer displays  Keyboards or touch screens for data entry  Printers for customer receipts  An EPOS Processor unit.

Kiosks  Kiosk systems ae custom built for the business that utilised then; the system in use at the theatre will consist of a cabinet containing the following items of hardware:

Kiosks  Possible set up for a Kiosk – why do you think there are multiple ones?

Ticket Scanners  Staff need to be able to scan certain types of ticket  Theatre printed ticket  Customer Print-at-home ticket  Smartphone QR Ticket

Questions  OCER wants to make their network instead of cabled – What are the advantages and disadvantages of this.  What is the difference between a Router, A Hub and a Switch?  What is a Peer-Peer network?  What is a client-server network?  Investigate the following network topologies – Bus, Star and ring? Ask the questions:  What are they?  Advantages and disadvantages of each  Where are they commonly used?
