Inhibition of basic urges Self-presentation Maintaining relationships Behavior change Decision Making Self-control Ego-Strength DEPLETION Inter- personal Changing the self

Influence to basic urges is depleting  Possibly the strength of the impulse being inhibited may determine to what extent depletion affect individuals  Not the direction of control is important but rather the exercise of control for itself

Consequences Loss of self-controlInfluence on stereotype based responses, but not the automatic component Depletion of Ego Strenght has also been found to affect smoking behavior, regulation of sexual urges and impulse spending. Depletion reduces individuals ability to inhibit urges Depletion can also cause a more focused view on a reward-relevant stimulus than a reward-irrelevant stimulus, and therefore increase individuals motivation. Lack of self-control by strengthening impulses, rather than undermining inhibition.

Interpersonal Less adaption to social norms Increases passivity and agreement Increases aggressive behavior Effects More likely to cheat Less will to override stereotype judgement -> interracial contacts Cognition Decrease of parts of mental efficiency Affect on decision making Strengthen confirmation bias Change in risk-taking Physical Marker Greater neuromuscular activation May affect neural system for conflict monitoring Broader Perspective
