 Permanent reduction in the overall number of employees.  Under Work Force Reduction Program, workers who agree to leave their job to preserve their co-workers’ jobs may receive EI regular benefits (as long as they are eligible).

7/3/ Work Force Reduction Program An employer work-force reduction process:  is initiated by the employer;  has as its objective a permanent reduction in the overall number of employees;  offers employees the option to leave employment voluntarily; and  is documented by the employer.

Who is eligible? Group covered by WFR Program:  Can include all employees (Full time, seasonal, temporary/on-call).  Can be limited to a sector, particular group or work site.  Employers can make offer of WFR to specific employees only. They do not have to offer WFR to all employees.

Documentation Process  Employers must provide documentation to program expert in the form of:  letter, notice, memorandum or some other relevant documentation.  WFR questionnaire provided to employer by program expert.  Short time frame for approval of program.  Flexible time frame for duration of program.  Program Contact: Graydon Holdbeck
