Permanent reduction in the overall number of employees. Under Work Force Reduction Program, workers who agree to leave their job to preserve their co-workers’ jobs may receive EI regular benefits (as long as they are eligible).
7/3/ Work Force Reduction Program An employer work-force reduction process: is initiated by the employer; has as its objective a permanent reduction in the overall number of employees; offers employees the option to leave employment voluntarily; and is documented by the employer.
Who is eligible? Group covered by WFR Program: Can include all employees (Full time, seasonal, temporary/on-call). Can be limited to a sector, particular group or work site. Employers can make offer of WFR to specific employees only. They do not have to offer WFR to all employees.
Documentation Process Employers must provide documentation to program expert in the form of: letter, notice, memorandum or some other relevant documentation.
