Welcome… As team leader in Area 3 I’d like to welcome you to this clinical placement. The Outpatient Department is frequently referred to as “the window of the hospital”, being the first encounter many people have with secondary care services. Hundreds of patients pass through Area 3 on a weekly basis…teamwork is paramount in the clinic setting and I hope you will be made to feel part of our team during your placement with us. On arrival you will meet your mentor and be orientated to the department. We also have a comprehensive Student Orientation Package for you to work through with your mentor. Your hours of work will be: Monday and Thursday 830-1730 Tuesday and Wednesday 830-1700 Friday 830-1330 Looking forward to meeting you, Elaine

Learning experience… During your placement your mentor will guide your tuition, thus allowing you to experience all the learning opportunities available in Area 3, for example Post Menopausal Bleeding (PMB) tutorial given by Clinical Nurse Specialist Lorna Maule. Followed up by attending the Post Menopausal Bleeding Clinic Rational: To give an understanding of a) how the patient journeys from GP to PMB clinic b) How the patient journey progresses from PMB clinic to an elective hospital admission Associated Extended Learning Opportunities a) Attend Pre Assessment Clinic (PACS) b) Attend Gynae Theatre c) Attend Out Patient Hysteroscopy Clinic Learning Opportunities during Patient Journey
