THE IMPORTANCE OF READING SWOOSH 9 Cláudia Regina Abreu | Cidália Sousa | Vanessa Reis Esteves

Reading Why is it important to read?

Reading A study by consultancy firm Mindlab International at the University of Sussex showed that reading reduces stress. Subjects only needed to read, silently, for six minutes to slow down the heart rate and ease tension in the muscles. In fact, it got subjects to stress levels lower than before they started.

Reading Why is it important to read? To develop vocabulary To improve concentration To improve our imagination To improve memory To reduce stress To have fun

Reading To develop our verbal abilities Why is it important to read? People who read tend to have a more varied range of words to express how they feel and to get their ideas across.

Reading Reading improves memory Why is it important to read? When you read, you have more time to think. Reading gives you a unique pause button to help you understand things better. When people are speaking– when you watch a film or listen to a tape – you can’t press pause.

Reading To improve focus and concentration Why is it important to read? Unlike blog posts and news articles, sitting down with a book makes you focus for long periods and concentrate, which is hard to do at first. Being fully engaged in a book involves closing off the outside world and immersing yourself into the text, which over time will lengthen your attention span.

Reading To improve your imagination You are only limited by what you can imagine, and the worlds described in books will help you imagine things which you have never seen. When reading a written description of an event or a place, your mind is responsible for creating that image in your head, instead of passively seeing an image on your television screen. Why is it important to read?

Reading To make you smarter Why is it important to read? Books offer an outstanding wealth of learning and at a much cheaper price than taking a course. Reading gives you a chance to acess a huge amount of research in a relatively short amount of time.

Reading For entertainment Why is it important to read? Reading is fun. A good book can keep us amused while developing our life skills.

Reading WATCH THIS VIDEO. WHY IS READING IMPORTANT FOR THIS MAN?

Reading WHY IS READING IMPORTANT FOR THIS MAN? …is something we take for granted… Because he didn’t know how to read and he wanted… to read his son’s book because he is a famous writer and he is very proud of him!

Reading How many times a day do we read things without even thinking about it, such as traffic signs, cereal boxes, etc.? “Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.” - Frederick Douglass “Live as if your were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” - Gandhi ( )

What if you couldn’t read…? You couldn’t surf online. You couldn’t read job postings. You couldn’t read recipes and cook new dishes. You couldn’t read road signs, nor drive a car… You couldn’t read nor write a simple SMS.

Being able to read is a fantastic ting! Open your book on page 148. Which book would you like to read?
