Presentation transcript:

Planting the seed for the community to blossom My presentation will be discussing the impacts on teachers, children and parents lives due to Sathya Sai Education in Human Values

Sathya Sai Preschool New Zealand

Our community  Drugs/alcohol  Child abuse  Health issues  Low academic achievement  Gang problems  High rates of crime  Poverty

Some of the critical issues we face with our children and our families  CHILDRENS ISSUES  Education - Have no or little knowledge of how to use/play with equipment  Behaviour problems - Low self esteem/withdrawn - Disruptive behaviour/anger problems  PARENT ISSUES - High unemployment - Lack of parenting skills - Low self esteem and confidence - Breakdown of family unit

My amazing journey  Teaching experience  Peaceful classrooms -children/teachers talking the language of values  Reflecting on my teaching approach

Vivienne

Methods used by teachers to draw out human values  Develop a caring and trusting relationship  Human values is not a separate subject that we teach it is woven into the early childhood curriculum  Positive descriptive praise Good choices

Methods used to support Vivienne parents and other parents at our preschool  Developing trusting relationships  Encouraged parents to spend time with their children at the preschool  Newsletters sent out to parents suggesting ways they can practice human values in their home environment  Trips/Workshops/Parent days– teachers work alongside parents offering guidance and support

Involved in their child’s education

Farm animals come to visit Sathya Sai Preschool

Vivienne gets a rabbit

I can spell my name

Maybe this is a good time to hear from Vivienne herself

The amazing outcomes  Vivienne loves to come to preschool. Trusting relationships have been formed  Vivienne is now a very confident child, academically and socially  Vivienne lives and speaks the language of values Happy child

The impact on Vivienne’s family  Vivienne’s parents can see the changes occurring in her. This has developed their awareness of the wonders of human values  Vivienne’s parents have become more interested and involved in her learning and development. Parenting skills have developed  The language of values is now spoken in their home  Mum is now working. Dad involved in Vivienne’s education more  Changes to their family - Happy family with values

Sathya Sai Education In Human Values Research has shown that the first seven years of a child’s development is very important. Research has also proven if children don’t learn empathy before the age of seven they may never learn it Set up more Sathya Sai preschools around the world
