Welcome to QMI QMI Paint Sealant Presentation
Teflon ® / PTFE Dynamic Utilized since 1938 –Auto racing –Aircraft –Space travel Numerous applications, including Paint Sealant –Heavy industry
PTFE Chemical Formula (CF 2 CF 2 ) n C = Carbon –backbone of universe F 2 = Fluorine –low surface energy –chemically inert
PTFE Chemical Bonds 1.Carbon to Carbon forms backbone 2.Carbon to Fluorine forms shield Powerful binding forces
PTFE Fluorine Shield Carbon backbone surrounded by sheath of large fluorine atoms Low surface energy –Low coefficient of friction –Non-sticking Powerfully bonded –Fracture resistance –High thermal stability Large fluorine atoms –Other atoms cannot penetrate –Chemically inert
PTFE Moisture / Humidity Hydrophobic –Does not combine with water –Does not dissolve in water Resistant to hydrolysis –Does not decompose, react with water Barrier to water permeation –Stable after year-long water immersion
PTFE Light & Age Stability Transparent to ultraviolet light Resistant to: –Oxidation –Surface fouling –Discoloration –Embrittlement Proven 20-year Florida test
PTFE Long Service Life Retains properties after aging Withstands exposure to: –High temperature 780°F / 415°C –Solvents –Oils –Oxidizing agents –Ultraviolet light –Other environmental agents
Combined Ingredient Benefits Ultimate shine & protection Hard, mirror-like finish Sun shield protects paint against fading Never turns gray or yellow when exposed to sunlight Seals against oxidation, corrosives, salts, dirt and insects Dirt and grime wash off easily Unsurpassed durability
Method of Application Easy to apply –By hand –By orbital buffer Removes road film and detergent build-up –Often eliminates need to use rubbing compounds
Applications –Non-abrasive, safe for clear-coat finishes Fiberglass and formica –Counter tops, sinks, bath tubs, showers, etc. –Automobiles, trucks, marine, aircraft, etc. Approved for enamel, lacquer, metal flake and metallic painted surfaces
Q-LAB Test - QMI & CPC Q-Lab Weathering Research Service –Accelerated weather gloss test 10 painted panels, 75 mm x 152 mm –5 QMI panels, 5 CPC panels –Each panel polished and buffed –Test cycle 8 hours UV light 4 hours condensation (moisture) –Gloss reading every 100 hours 500 hours represent approximately 6 months
