3 New Staff Grants: The Aim Enable new staff to establish their research at Macquarie with a view towards external funding Year 1 New Staff Grant MQ Research Development Grant Year 2 External Grant

4 Eligibility New Staff Level A/B with a contract (fixed term or continuing) for the duration of the grant Normally within two years of appointment No more than two attempts Return to Work Absence of six months or greater Within 12 months of return to work Any level

5 Application Detail Project Summary Plain language Comply with guidelines Outline of the Project Aims Significance Research Plan Methodology Outcomes/ Outputs Budget Accurate Justified (why?)

6 Budgets Personnel Specific levels (including on-costs), roles and responsibilities Teaching Relief Must be justified as to: (a) why the tasks can’t be delegated; and (b) why the tasks can’t be done in non-teaching time Equipment Check that any necessary equipment is unavailable: General computing equipment cannot be purchased Travel Conference travel is NOT supported. Travel is supported for data collection
