Stator Plan & Schedule Chris Booth 2 nd March stators to construct for mid-April. One complete coil assembly recovered from ISIS drive. Coils recoverable from 2 demonstrator drives. If better coils available from Cambion in time, they will be used instead

Chris BoothUniversity of Sheffield 2 Parts Required Vacuum tubes (3) – To be ordered by & delivered by RAL. Not part of Sheffield assembly. (What delivery date?) Kapton tape – sufficient in stock. Coils (72 plus spares, say 90) –30 new, tested coils available –1 coil assembly (24 coils) usable as is; needs overall insulation check. –Other coils (48) recoverable from demonstrator drives – may need cleaning and individually testing. Copper shims (about 450). Probably sufficient in stock. –Check, order more if required. Heat transfer compound – available. End spacers (6) – make as required (quick). Cooling jackets (3) – all available (recoverable).

Chris BoothUniversity of Sheffield 3 Assembly Procedure & Schedule (1 ) Coils first assembled on temporary former, for later transfer to vacuum tube. Need 3 formers & holding jigs. (3 days to make all jigs.) Clean & electrically test coils; select by thickness. (3 days for all?) Fit end spacers, coils (with heat transfer compound), shims onto former. Clamp in holding jig. Check total length. (6 days for 3 assemblies) Fit cooling jackets. Final insulation check. (2 days – time for rebuild required if problem found!) Transfer coil assemblies to RAL.

Chris BoothUniversity of Sheffield 4 Assembly Procedure & Schedule (2) Transfer coil assemblies to RAL. Vacuum tubes covered in kapton tape (1 day) Stator assemblies fitted to vacuum tubes & flanges, prior to welding. (How is assembly fixed in place during mounting?) Electrical connections made after welding and assembly completed. (Where? RAL or Sheffield?) Swagelock fittings for water cooling added, prior to full test or install. (1 day) NB Construction (up to transfer to RAL) will be sequentially by stator; some tasks (e.g. electrical testing) in parallel. 28 working days available before Easter!
