Case Public Sector United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Υπουργείο Εσωτερικών

Case Studies The 5,000 employees of the Illinois Department of Transportation work to provide safe, cost-effective transportation to the residents of Illinois. Among the Illinois Department of Transportation’s guiding principles is a dedication to providing quality programs through innovation. The organization continually endeavours to “do it right the first time, every time.” With PerformancePoint as a key part of its BI platform, IDOT plans to implement several invaluable dashboards that will help save lives and money. For example, a fatalities dashboard will track fatal crashes and help to identify high-crash locations and root cause. This will optimize the development of effective crash mitigation programs. Another useful dashboard will monitor road-salt usage by location, essential to the effective management of a high cost item. And these dashboards are only the beginning. IDOT plans to build many more, all aiming to provide it’s employees with direct and easy access to the information and analytics they’ll need to make better and faster decisions, drive efficiencies, and improve safety.

Case Studies Westminster City Council is a Local Authority serving the heart of London. Its 60 elected councillors needed a Members Information Portal that would allow them to monitor critical services such as planning, street care, and licensing in their neighbourhoods in near real time. Westminster City Council is a unitary authority providing local government services to 232,000 people and 47,000 businesses in London. Rated “excellent—four stars” by the Audit Commission, Westminster is a pioneer in the provision of leading-edge solutions for local government. The council’s 60 elected members serve a community that is highly diverse with complex needs, and which generates 2 per cent of the United Kingdom’s gross domestic product. The council members wanted new tools that would help them better engage with the residents in their neighbourhoods by providing real-time street-based information from council officers.

Case Studies The Department of Fisheries, part of the Ministry of Agriculture in France, manages all maritime activities in the country, including the regulation of the fishing industry. In 2006, the European Union (EU) cited the department for its inability to collect inspection data and generate reports appropriately. In two months, the Department of Fisheries implemented Microsoft® Office SharePoint® Server 2007, Microsoft Office InfoPath® 2007, and InfoPath Forms Services With this integrated solution, the department can gather information digitally during inspections and then easily supply reports to the EU. In addition, the Department of Fisheries can predict potential infractions, focusing its inspections and ensuring that one of France’s most important natural resources is well protected.

Case Studies Israel Police needed to unite data from more than 20 intelligence applications to give its officers a faster and more efficient tool for solving crime. They needed an enterprise grade extract, transform, and load (ETL) tool for performing complex transformations on feeds before adding information to its new online analytical processing (OLAP) intelligence system. After testing Informatica PowerCenter against Microsoft® SQL Server™ 2005 Integration Services, Israeli Police decided to use Integration Services for the ETL component of its OLAP solution. The 2- terabyte intelligence system, running on a single instance of SQL Server, helps Israeli Police intelligence officers complete data searches in seconds that once took days to assemble from disparate systems. Integration Services has also proven easy to incorporate into custom applications created using Microsoft Visual Studio®.NET.
