Agenda 1- Convergence & IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) 2- Rich Communication Suite - RCS 3- Business with IMS 4- What’s next ? 2

Voice & Data Devices Fixed & Mobile Media & Network 1. Convergence & IMS >> What is Convergence ? Voice & Data A true multimedia experience that transforms the way we communicate (e.g. VoIP, Voice over cable, Mobile VoIP) Devices Telecoms functionality added to laptops, games, music consoles and vice versa (e.g. Nintendo with Wi-Fi, Mobile with Walkman, iPod with phone) Media & Network Reinventing home entertainment (e.g. IPTV, movie download) FMC Allow customers to enjoy the best of both worlds (e.g. BT Fusion) 3

1. IP-Convergence & IMS >> IP Multimedia Subsystem Technical View I-S-CSCF P-CSCF DNS/ENUM HSS presence IPTV conversa Application layer IMS control Transport layer IP core network Mobile access Fixed access Wireless access Standardization - First introduced in 3gpp R5 in gpp R6: internetworking with Wlan - 3gpp/ Tispan R7: support for fixed network SIP is used as signaling protocol in IMS IMS – a layering architecture Application layer: - All IMS services are deployed on this layer Signaling layer: - A common control plane that initiates & manage all call sessions Transport layer: - Networks like mobile, fixed, wireless,.. are considered as access networks to IMS MGCF MRF c/p others 4

1. IP-Convergence & IMS >> IP Multimedia Subsystem IMS – An Enabler - Enhance service agility, deliver multimedia services - Rapid roll-out of new & innovative service -> short TTM - Enable Convergence: Fixed & Mobile, Voice & Data - Horizontal framework for service delivery, services independent from access network - Lowering Opex - 3 rd party interoperability Transport AS-1 AS-2 AS-3 Service control Transport Common control plane AS-1 AS-2 AS-3 5

1. IP-Convergence & IMS >> IP Multimedia Subsystem Importance of IMS Most of respondents state that IMS is a fundamental part for the IP-Convergence 36% of critical commercial respondents felt that IMS could change the Telco industry 6

2. Rich Communication Suite IMS Services RCS was established in May 2007, supported by many operators & infrastructure vendors. The main objective of RCS program is to speed up the introduction of commercial IMS services. Enriched Call Call enriched with multimedia sharing Enriched Phonebook Contacts enhanced with capabilities & presence Enhanced messaging Conversational messaging experience Source: GSMA RCS program 7

 IMS is not a business model itself but it implies changes in business model 3. Business with IMS Opportunities - Walled garden: deliver services on its own existing network - Smart pipe: support its own services, partners’ services or 3 rd party’s services - Federated IMS: combination of walled garden & smart pipe - … 8

3. Business with IMS Difficulties  Technology constraints are not the main issue for IMS deployment TTechnology constraints are not the main issue for IMS deployment Source: STL Telco 2.0 9

4. What’s Next ?  IMS is now in the deployment phase.. IMS- The INEVITABLE choice for Telecom Operators Source: STL Telco
