LAN Access Point Extension Pundik Dmitry & Blekhman Alexandr Directed by Konstantin Sinyuk Winter 2001/2 HSDSL Lab

BlueTooth Overview Short range wireless technology BlueTooth Goals –Network solution for handheld devices –Cable replacement –New usage scenarios for plethora of cutting edge smart devices –Low power consumption BlueTooth wireless technology is a de facto standard for short range RF communication.

System Overview LAP – LAN Access Point BT - BlueTooth PDA LAP LAN BT BT Server BT Clients

Problems Today BlueTooth protocol stack built for concept demonstration system. This stack only partially implements the BlueTooth standard stack. The implementation of the stack is rather simple and inefficient. One BlueTooth device at the server side, which deals with both searching for clients and connecting with them (causes ~10s delay).

Protocol Stack New protocol stack must be implemented and integrated in the system. The new stack must work with multi client system, and implement the whole BlueTooth standard stack. There are two available stacks, that have to be examined, and integrated into the system as needed: -Protocol stack written as a project in the laboratory by Oren Haggai. -Protocol stack included into Development Kit of new DigiAnswer BlueTooth devices.

Functionality Separation In order to eliminate the conflict between the search process and the data transfer process, the functionality of the system will be split. There will be two BlueTooth devices on the server side: -One working only on the searching process -Second working on connections and data transfer

Technology Incorporated BlueTooth devices from: -DigiAnswer -Ericsson PDA devices from Compaq (iPaq) Standard development tools (software)
