Outline Previous Balloon Experiments Goals for Project Purpose Concerns and Solutions Deliverables/Schedule Questions

Previous Balloon Projects – Beginning of HAB – Completed development of GPS tracking system – Implemented use of video system – Attempted deploying truss system using shape memory polymer (SMP) composite material for the hinges

Previous Balloon Projects cont – Improved power system – Improved video system – Completed Russ Antenna

Goals for the Project Goal 1: – GPS Repeater System Goal 2: – Tracking Controller System

Purpose GPS Repeater System – Imposing physical structure – Will allow for indoor testing of HIBAL systems Source: Engadget.

Purpose cont Tracking Controller System – Gathers GPS data from payload and chase vehicle – Calculates azimuth and elevation angles between two – Autonomously aims tracking devices at payload – Calculates projected flight path – Calculate estimated Landing Zones

Concerns and Solutions GPS Repeater System – Complying with FCC regulations – Complying with Building Codes Tracking Controller System – Complying with FCC/FAA regulations?? – Complying with Building Codes – Environmental issues

Deliverables GPS Repeater Tracking Controller System Project portfolio Any other required documentation

Schedule Weeks 1-2: Intro to class, form team, choose project. Weeks 2-4: Research on GPS repeaters and Tracking Controller Systems Weeks 4-6: Begin compiling design specs, gather parts list. Week 7: Design Review Oral presentation Weeks 8-10: Complete design and begin implementation. Final week- Design Project Midpoint Progress Conference HAM test- Jan. 7 PM P&R Communications Feb. 9 AM 148/150 Russ
