Academic Levels In Germany they begin taking foreign languages in the third grade, by the ninth grade the students are fluent in at least one other language besides German. In the United States, students start learning foreign languages around ninth grade, first year of High School. It is different in city schools, some start in the fifth or sixth grade, with Spanish, because the majority already has a background in that language.

Qualifications To Graduate High School In the US the requirements to graduate include: 4 English courses, 3 Math courses, 3 Sciences, 2 History credits and 2 Foreign Language (each are one year long.

In Germany students are placed into one of four education tracks by the age of only 10. These tracks will largely shape the rest of their academic and professional life.
