 To + verb = Infinitive (to drive, to sing, etc.) ◦ I use my microwave to cook hot dogs.  For+ Verb + ing = Gerund (driving, singing, etc.) ◦ I use my book as a pillow for sleeping in Mr. Price’s class.

◦ Use infinitives or gerunds when talking about the purpose of something.  I use my computer to study every night.  I use my computer for studying every night. ◦ Use gerunds for objects when talking about purpose, not for people.  I went to the gun store for buying a gun.  I went to the gun store to buy a gun.
