Mapping the Universe A Collaborative Project

Idea / Concept Cosmological science as a continuous process Constructing a representation of the earth is analogous to the constructing a representation of the universe

Globe Visualization What they see –Geowall projection starts What they experience –Students ask themselves “What am I seeing?”

Insert globe viz here

Why a Globe? The globe is a familiar image to children At first, the viewer can’t identify the object. As the slices fill in, we see the globe

From the Globe to the Universe This process of discovery mimics what cosmologists experience now as they are getting more data Enter Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data (SDSS)

SDSS

So…What’s in it for Me? The narration introduces the visitor to the role of the cosmologist Visitors will understand that -this is a representation of the actual universe -this is cutting edge data SCIENCE IS A PROCESS!!!!

Tasks Redoing the fly-through for DirectX Transitioning between the globe and the SDSS data Troubleshooting
