Sharing Knowledge Saving Resources Environmental issues  Climate change – reducing carbon emissions  Unsustainable demands on the earth’s resources  Waste disposal – emissions / capacity  Legislation / penalties

Sharing Knowledge Saving Resources Resource Efficiency Getting the most out of the resources we use – e.g. by:  Reducing waste  Using energy / water more efficiently – not using more than is necessary  Designing products / processes to use resources more efficiently

Sharing Knowledge Saving Resources Business benefits  Costs / savings  Competitiveness / environmental credentials  Legal compliance

Sharing Knowledge Saving Resources Potential cost savings  1% - 3% of turnover  5% - 15% energy / water costs  Reducing energy bill by 20% could add the same amount to profits as a 5% increase in sales  5% - 10% of true cost of waste (20 x the actual disposal cost) = 4% - 5% of turnover or £1000 per employee  UK businesses are missing out on combined cost savings of as much as £10 million per day by failing to maximise the potential of water efficiency  Envirowise Rippleffect initiative offers saving of around 30% on water and effluent bills

Sharing Knowledge Saving Resources Potential cost savings  30% - 50% of energy used by compressed air systems is due to air leaks  90% of production materials do not end up as saleable products  80% of products are discarded within six weeks  99% of materials used in production / contained in goods produced are discarded within six weeks  UK industry could save £6.4 billion (£3.4 bn energy / £2.7 bn waste) through low cost / no cost resource efficiency measures

Sharing Knowledge Saving Resources Thank you
