Student Administration Improvement Programme

What do we mean by SAIP? A review of the processes we undertake to support the University in delivering services to students (manual and system) A systematic evaluation of our current services to ensure that they are relevant and efficient An analysis of our business and process relationships both within Registry and across the wider University to ensure that they are aligned

Why are we doing it? Everything around us has changed, why shouldn’t the way we work? To make sure that our administrative processes fit in with what we are having to do now and what we know of the future To improve the services we provide to our students To consult and involve those directly affected by those services

What does it entail? Preparation – review proposal with rationale, agreed by Lead Team Review – detailed analysis of the review area using various techniques including focus groups, document analysis etc, managed by Review Team Outcomes – proposals for change (or no change) including plans for implementation Implementation – putting process change in place in a managed way

Who does it involve? The Lead Team – senior members of the University to provide institutional direction, agree the review scope, oversee progress and agree outcomes The Review Team – operational staff and other stakeholders from the area under review –Chair appointed by the Lead Team, neutral to the area under review –Review Manager, usually the main operational manager of the review area –Review members, operational staff and students, other users

What have we done so far? International admissions procedures from initial application to actual enrolment –Covered both UG and PG –Looked at processes for: Application handling around the university payment of deposits and issuing of visa letters identity checks and confirmation of academic qualifications MAS roll-out to schools

What have we done so far? Preparation for re-enrolment –Covered the processes undertaken between assessment and the start of the next academic year to prepare students for re-enrolment –Looked at processes for: transferring assessment information to students and Registry ensuring that students not eligible to re-enrol were prevented from doing so (debtors, referrals) re-enrolling students before the start of the academic year including at partner Colleges

So Let’s Pretend! The University has asked for a review of the student disciplinary procedures The Review Team has met and set up a Focus Group to help identify: –Fact finding – the AS IS –Re-designing – the TO BE WE are that Focus Group Our Programme is as follows:

5 minutes: the basics of Process Review 10 minutes: initial findings (our desk research) 20 minutes: AS IS 20 minutes: TO BE Followed by 10 minutes: Feedback and Proposals At the end of this session you will have an awareness and understanding of the basic tools and techniques we are using for SAIP here at Brighton Workshop Programme
