Tesla Roadster 100% electric 2-door sports coupe 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds 13,000 rpm redline Less than $.02 per mile ($.11) 0mph w/ 208 lb-ft of torque

Power Electronics Module (PEM) Most of the subsystems in the Tesla Roadster are completely electronic and under direct software control They are designed as an integrated system, same as computers. When you shift gears or accelerate in the Tesla Roadster, the PEM translates your commands into precisely timed voltages, telling the motor to respond with the proper speed and direction of rotation. The PEM also controls motor torque, charging, and regenerative braking. The temperatures of the motor and power electronics. The PEM controls over 200 kW of electrical power during peak acceleration — enough power to illuminate 2,000 incandescent light bulbs.

Energy Storage System (ESS) Made of 6,000 plus lithium-ion-cells, the same in cell-phones & laptops. –VMS – Vehicle Management Sytem tracks the battery history, performance and available energy All Controlled by the PEM –Also monitors the voltage delivered by the ESS to the car.

Tesla Roadster Advantages Zero Emission No more $4.00/gal for gas The first class of new alternative forms for future vehicles Battery fully recyclable Unlike other battery powered cars, one can unplug anytime during recharge and continue driving Tesla Single-occupancy access to all carpool lanes Income tax credit (awaiting new legislation) A luxury car that's fully exempt from the luxury car tax Free parking at charging stations at LAX No parking meter fees in an increasing number of major metropolitan areas

Tesla Roadster Disadvantages Runs for only 220 miles on one full charge Takes 3 1/2 hours to charge fully Not many charging stations have been set up 2008 model => $98,000 (1 speed) 2009 model => $109,000 (2 speed)
