Module Enhancements Use a “Boom box” to demonstrate amplified bass (low frequencies) and treble (high frequencies). Introduce the math concepts of amplitude and its calculations. Use the example of the Chicago sound detectors to explore the use of acoustics and triangulation.

What is amplitude.

Scientific Inquiry Have students make a bridge-like string instrument and explore how changing variables in the design affects the sound produced.

Engineering Design Have students design and build the best bridge- like string instruments.

Ethics Discuss the use of : –Audio surveillance devices (privacy issues). bugging devices and Big Brother concept –Voice recognition technology What if someone steals (records) my voice and therefore my identity Discuss the treatment of people with hearing impairment
