WORKERS COMPENSATION PROCEDURES OSHA TRAINING FEBRUARY 13, 2008

Introduction Ct Workers’ Compensation Act was first enacted in 1913 Basic premise – Provide wage replacement and other benefits, as well as medical treatment for those employees who have been injured, disabled or killed while performing their jobs.

Incident Reporting Policy I. Policy Statement- the purpose of this policy is to provide guidelines for reporting incidents occurring on or involving University property or personnel involved in University business. Safety security and risk management considerations require that such incidents be reported consistently. II. Responsibilities a. Emergencies b. Reporting generally Illness (job or university related) Injury (job or university related)

Incident Reporting Policy

Emergency Procedures In the event of an injury, illness or chemical exposure while on the job, report immediately by phone to: 911 (if emergency medical attention is required) or Public Safety x3333 (if necessary) Notify supervisor If employee needs medical attention and is able to drive, he/she should go to Middlesex Hospital Occupational Medicine. If unable to drive, the supervisor should make arrangements to transport the employee. After hours, Public Safety can transport the employee to Middlesex Hospital emergency room. As soon as reasonably possible, employee should go to Human Resources and complete FRI (First Report of Injury). If unable to do so, supervisor should complete FRI.

HR Reporting Procedure FRI sent to Meadowbrook TPA For Physical Plant bargaining unit members, copy sent to Cliff Ashton For all, copy sent to Bill Nelligan

Meadowbrook TPA Procedures Call employee within 24 hours If necessary, appoint a nurse case manager Follow-up with doctor Update employer regularly Recommend light duty, if possible Work with employee until RTW

HR Status Reporting Forward medical bills to Meadowbrook Receive regular status reports from claim representative Advise Cliff/supervisor of status or anticipated RTW date Confirm RTW Work with Alena to record time properly

Workers’ Compensation Payments Plan is self-insured First 2 weeks, WC benefit paid by Wesleyan Beginning week 3, WC benefit paid by Meadowbrook TPA
