Yellowstone Volcano Observatory (YVO) Jake Lowenstern USGS Bob Smith UU

USGS Volcano Hazards Program Operates 5 volcano observatories (YVO is smallest) Working towards NVEWS (National Volcano Early Warning System), which is a program designed to “step-up” our monitoring infrastructure. Developing SWARM and VALVE software for seismic and multi-parameter datasets.

Yellowstone Volcano Observatory Partnership of USGS, YNP and U of U Focuses on volcanism, earthquakes, hydrothermal hazards (explosions) Seismic network, GPS network, InSAR, hydrologic monitoring Future: Thermal monitoring, PBO strain and tilt meters

YVO priorities Recently held meeting to develop monitoring plan Need to improve telemetry (redundancy) More broadbands to detect volcanic signals Trying to identify additional sources of funding
