Department of Applied Physics The Hong Kong Polytechnic University News & Events ( ~12) : A paper titled "Dielectric properties and abnormal C-V characteristics of Ba 0.5 Sr 0.5 TiO 3 - Bi 1.5 ZnNb 1.5 O 7 composite thin films grown on MgO (001) substrates by pulsed laser deposition " (Dr. H.Y. Tian as the first author and Dr. Wang as the second author) appears in the October 02, 2006 issue of Applied Physics Letters (Vol.89, p ) : Bye! Mr. BORNER Dominik left our group today. He will continue his stay at EPFL.EPFL : Bye! Mr. SCHNEIDER Arnold left our group today. During his stay in our group, Arnold has given a talk and conducted experiments using PLD, XRD etc. He has also submitted both a technical report and a general report about the program and life in Hong Kong (a very nice and interesting report, indeed).general report : Welcome! Dr. WANG Kefeng from Nanjing University joined the group today. Dr.Wang is an expert on the Mn-O compounds. His work at PolyU will be focusing on multiferroic materials : Welcome! Miss CHEN Xuejiao from Nanjing joined the group today. Miss Chen has been working on microwave components for many years. Her work at PolyU will be focusing on the design and characterization of tunable microwave devices : Welcome! Miss ZHANG Yuanyuan joined the group today. Miss Zhang is a currently Ph.D. student at the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics. Her work at PolyU will be focusing on macrowave materials : Welcome! Dr. QU Jifeng from University of Science and Technology of China joined the group today. Dr. Qu is an expert on superconducting oxides. His work at PolyU will be focusing on magnetoelectronic materials and devices : Welcome! Dr. ZHANG Li from University of Electronic Science and Technology of China joined the group today. Dr. Zhang is an expert on magnetic materials. His work at PolyU will be focusing on the characterization of magnetic materials using MFM : Group meeting. Dr. QU Jifeng gave a talk about his research on Mn-O compounds.

Mr. SUN Tieyu left our group today. He will continue his Ph.D. study at Tsinghua University : Group meeting. Dr. Wang Kefeng gave a talk about his Ph.D. research : Welcome! Mr. WONG Siangleung from Singapore joined the group today. Mr. Wong is an expert on microwave materials and circuits. He is going to work on the ITF project at PolyU : Welcome! Mr. JI Hong from University of Electronic Science and Technology of China joined the group today. Mr. Ji is an expert on materials characterization using X-ray diffraction. His work at PolyU will be focusing on the characterization of thin films and heterostructures using XRD : Congratulations! Mr. WANG Shaoshun gave a confirmation presentation to the academic committee today. He has passed the confirmation exam : A paper titled "Microstructure and in-plane dielectric and ferroelectric properties of barium strontium titanate thin films on MgAl 2 O 4 single crystal substrate" (Miss X.Y.Zhou as the first author and Dr. Wang as the correspondence author) appears in the December 07, 2006, issue of Applied Physics Letters (Vol.89, p ) : Group meeting. Dr. Zhang Li reviewed the current status of AFM/SPM : AP Christmas lunch buffet party at the Stanford Hillview Hotel. All members attended the party and five (Qu Jifeng, Wang Yu, Ying Zhan, Zhang Li and Zhang Yuanyuan) luckily got gifts in the lucky draw : A paper titled "Perovskite barium zirconium strontium nanoparticles directly synthesized from solutions" (Dr. J.Q.
