Year 7 Guidance Manager CEOP Ambassador

 Understand risks of using webcams  Understand “sexting” and risks involved for young people  Know how to keep safe online – resources to support you, and key messages

 70% of children aged 5-15 have access to a tablet computer at home  Children aged spend 17.2 hours online  The most popular device for getting online is the mobile phone  38% of young people received a sexually explicit text or  25% have received an offensive sexual image (Statistics from Beatbullying survey/OFCOM surveys)

 Webcam feeds can be faked or recorded “snatched or grabbed”  Omegle and Chat Roulette often show inappropriate content  You don’t always know who you are talking to  Information can be passed inadvertently – if you are wearing your school uniform on webcam  Sharing personal information can make it easier for someone to track a young person

 Never accept people you don’t know and trust in the real world  Giving out personal information can be risky  Remember webcam feeds can be recorded and faked  Don’t webcam with people you don’t know  Turn the webcam off after use  Delete people that make you feel uncomfortable  Know how to report a problem

 Sexual communications including pictures and messages over mobile technology  “Youth produced sexual image”  Sending to young people/adults - Grooming Images or videos generated by children under the age of 18, or of children under the age of 18 that are of a sexual nature or are indecent. This is a CHILD ABUSE IMAGE

 Images can be taken and uploaded very easily  Permanency  Where do the images end up  Location based services – facebook messenger  “Revenge Porn”  Future life and career

 Education Act 2011 gave new powers to schools to seize and search an electronic device if there is a good reason to do so.  Schools can examine, confiscate and securely store a mobile device if there is a belief that it contains indecent images.  Usual safeguarding procedures would be followed in this instance. The police must be informed of an incident like this.

 Do not send pictures of yourself to others that you would not be happy for your family to see  Do not enable location services on your phone  Know who you are sharing things with – who is the audience  Know how to report

 Unwanted contact/grooming  Cyberbullying  Harmful content/illegal materials  Privacy/digital footprints

 Know how to set privacy settings on social networking sites  “friends” should be people you know and trust in the real world  Only post content you are happy with your family seeing  Keep personal information private  Understand digital footprint – images and location based services  Future implications of online behaviour  Know how to report
