 The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.  To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.  These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

 IB = International Baccalaureate ◦ an international program developed in Switzerland  IA = Internal Assessment ◦ a paper completed under the direction of the teacher that is a percentage of the IB exam grade  EE = Extended Essay ◦ a 4000 word essay completed during the Junior and Senior year  CAS = Creativity / Action / Service ◦ community service component of the IB program  SL = Standard Level  HL = Higher Level ◦ the courses taken in the 6 groups are either taken as an SL or an HL  ITGS = Information Technology in a Global Society ◦ a computer class  HOTA = History of the Americas ◦ a history class  TOK = Theory of Knowledge ◦ required 7 th class in the Diploma program

 English Language Arts4 credits  Mathematics4 credits -- one of which must be Algebra I and one of which must be Geometry.  Science3 credits -- one of which must be Biology 1 and two of which must be equally rigorous science courses. Two of the three required credits must have a laboratory component.  Social Studies1 credit - World History / 1 credit - United States History /.5 credit - United States government /.5 credit – Economics with Financial Literacy  World Languages Not required for graduation, but 2 years in the same language required for admission into state universities - 4 years of the same language required for IB  Fine Art/Practical Art1 credit in Fine Art or Practical Art (waived for IB students)  Physical Education/Health1 credit HOPE (waived for IB students)  Electives8 credits __________________________________________________________________________________________________________  TOTAL 24 credits cont. →

 State Assessment Requirements: ◦ Must pass the Grade 10 ELA or earn a passing concordant score on the ACT or SAT ◦ Must pass the Algebra 1 EOC to earn course credit or earn a passing concordant score on the P.E.R.T. ◦ Must participate in the EOC assessment and the results constitute 30% of the final grade, in the following subjects:  Algebra 1  Biology 1  Geometry  US History  Algebra 2

 Grade Point Average (GPA) Requirement: ◦ Cumulative GPA of 2.0 (unweighted)  On-line Course: ◦ At least one course within the 24-credits must be an online course (waived for IB students)

 24 points with: ◦ certified in CAS ◦ accepted EE ◦ accepted TOK essay  3 HL tests / 3 SL tests  6 exams total / 0 – 7 score range  3 HL tests must earn minimum of 12 points with no score below a 3 (allowed one 2 with a total of 28 points)  3 SL tests must earn minimum of 9 points (allowed one 2 on an SL test)  No 0 or 1 on any test  Can earn up to 3 points from the EE and TOK Essay  4 HL tests is the limit ◦ if take 4 HLs must score a minimum of 16 points on 4 HL tests

 Florida Academic Scholars Award = 100 hours  Florida Medallion Scholars Award = 75 hours ◦ Completing the IB CAS requirement will give the student an automatic 150 hours of community service ◦ Any additional hours can be turned in and added to the 150 hours earned through CAS (total hours will be included on the High School transcript)
