The people in an ethnic group could have the following in common: language, religion, history, types of food or set of traditional stories. Arabs: an ethnic group in Southwest Asia who believe themselves to be descendants of Abraham through Ishmael. Muslims: people who practice the religion of Islam Persians: people who live in the modern country of Iran Sunni Muslims: followers of one sect of Islam that thought the leadership of Islam should go to whomever was the best leader. Shia Muslims: followers of one sect of Islam that thought the leadership of Islam should go to Muhammad’s descendants.
