 Components of Emotional Intelligence  Identifying emotional symptoms  What’s Going On? Adapted from On Course  Predicament Pickle  Wrap-Up

 Self-Awareness ◦ Are you the pilot or the co-pilot?  Self-Management ◦ Do you let your emotions control you?  Social Awareness ◦ Do you have the skills?  Relationship Management ◦ Are you tuned in?

Do you know how to define, identify and understand your emotions when they’re happening? ◦ Write down a time when you were:  happy  embarrassed  sad ◦ Envision yourself in that moment.  How did you feel? Put into words what your body experienced, what facial expressions were shown, etc…

 Taken from On Course website and adapted to fit the life of a student. ◦ Options for activity  Put students into groups and have them discuss one or more of the 6 scenarios  Role Play ◦ Have them discuss the provided questions and add others as you see fit.

1.Post 6 signs throughout the room in this order: Illegal Illegal but acceptable Not a good idea A good idea Brilliant Legal 2.Read a statement to students and ask them to choose which side of the room they gravitate towards. Examples: - You keep in touch with an old boyfriend or girlfriend and your current “interest” has no idea. - You spank a child who is being bad - You call in sick when you’re not - You challenge something that you consider to be wrong 3.Discussion Points: How did some of the statements make you feel? Mad? Embarrassed? How did you feel about those who have different values than you?

 Let’s share ideas that you’ve used in the past for this subject.
