Does God Hear the Prayer of Sinners?

What Does John 9:31 Teach? Background Background –Jesus healed a blind man (Jn. 9:1-12) –The Pharisees believed Jesus was a sinner for breaking the Sabbath (Jn. 9:16,24,28) –The blind man was talking about a sinner who was hardened and would not be heard by God (Jn. 9:31; Psa. 34:15-18; [1 Pet. 3:15]; 66:17-20; Prov. 15:29; 21:27; 28:9: Isa. 1:15; 59:1-2) –Some passages that speak of praying for forgiveness refer to Jews who were in a covenant relationship with God (Lk. 18:13-14)

What About Saul and Cornelius? What About the “Sinner’s Prayer”? Salvation for the non-Christian sinner is not conditioned upon prayer, but… Salvation for the non-Christian sinner is not conditioned upon prayer, but… –Hearing the gospel (Mk. 16:15-16; Rom. 10:17) –Believing in Jesus (Jn. 8:24; 20:31) –Confessing Jesus (Rom. 10:9-10) –Repenting of sin (Lk. 24:47; Acts 17:30) –Baptism (Acts 2:38; 22:16) –Living faithfully (Mt. 28:18-19)

What About the “Sinner’s Prayer”? What should he pray for? Should he pray for… What should he pray for? Should he pray for… –Grace? No (Tit. 2:11) –Love? No (John 3:16) –Holy Spirit? No (Gal. 3:2) –Desire? No (2 Pet. 3:9) –Reconciliation? (2 Cor. 5:18-20) –Light? No (2 Cor. 4:4) –Faith? No (Rom. 10:17) –Salvation? No (James 1:21) –Power? No (Rom. 1:16)
