Emergency Preparedness

Potential Emergencies at Cummins Types – Fire Serious injury (loss of life or limb) Tornado, flood, severe weather Large chemical release (such as the 500 gallon diesel tank) What to Do You will be notified by the Public Announcement system, Fire Alarm, or supervisor telling you to evacuate the area. If an evacuation is initiated, stop what you are doing and leave all personal belongings behind.

Reporting an Emergency All employees have the authority and the responsibility to activate the alarm system or Dial 911 if they feel the emergency warrants it. Any employee who identifies an emergency situation should also immediately notify their supervisor and other employees in the area to make them aware. Supervisors should also assess the situation and contact the EC or Dial 911 as warranted.

Building Evacuation In the event that the emergency warrants an evacuation, all personnel shall evacuate the work area using the nearest exit door. All employees will meet in the North parking lot of the main facility Employees are required to meet your Supervisor and stay with the group until instructed that it is safe to return. The emergency coordinators, Wayne Lepine, Kevin Skaggs, and Jeff Dale, will take an accurate head count of employees. EXIT

Building Evacuation The Emergency Response Coordinator (EC) will contact Supervisors to identify any missing personnel. The EC is responsible for notifying the responding Fire/Rescue Incident Commander of any missing employees. The responding Fire/Rescue service and/or Security will be responsible for ANY and ALL rescue and medical duties. Employees are NOT expected to perform rescue and medical duties. LOBBYOFFICE ASSEMBLY POINT = FIRE EXTINGUISHERS = HANDICAPPED WORK STATIONS

Emergency Preparedness Exits – Keep EXIT doors & aisles open and accessible. At Cummins, we require that at least three feet of clear space be kept in front of all emergency exits. Incident Reporting – When: If you feel there is a safety or environmental condition that does meet company guidelines or follow the law.

Emergency Response Spills – Clean up small spills (generally considered less than 5 gallons) if you know what the material is and you can do it safely. Clean-up and disposal procedures for all chemicals can be found on the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). Stop all machines, equipment, or processes that may interfere with the cleanup. Call for help and inform your Supervisor.

The yellow liquid spill did not match up to the contents of the drums (waste metal only). As the identification of the spill was not immediately known, full protective measures should be employed during clean-up.

Fire Triangle

Don’t use temporary wires or extension cords when permanent wiring is available. Don’t overload motors, circuits, outlets. Don’t leave heaters or coffee pots on overnight. Replace frayed or worn cords. Fire Prevention Replace fuses and circuits, don’t short fuses with metal. Don’t smoke around flammable liquids or vapors. Keep flammable liquids (e.g. fuels) away from oxidizing liquids (e.g. oxygen, bleach). Keep combustible materials like paper away from open flames.

Clean up spills and leaks promptly and make sure your area is clean from oil and dust. Store solvent rags or wipes in self-closing metal cans. Store combustible waste or trash in metal containers with a lid. Store your butts in a metal can. Fire Prevention con’t

Fire extinguishers are located throughout our facility. An extinguisher should always be within 75 ft. of all areas AND EASILY ACCESSIBLE. P A S S: Pull the pin, Aim standing 8 feet away, Squeeze the trigger, Sweep the base of fire (Make it count! Fire extinguishers will last only 10 – 45 seconds.) Fire Extinguisher Use

You may attempt to extinguish a fire when: You know the proper extinguisher for the fire, and it is available. You know the proper extinguisher for the fire, and it is available. Responding to Injuries First Item - Call for help. If trained to do so, and before medical assistance arrives - Check to see if the person is conscious and is able to communicate. Check the persons airway, breathing and circulation. Go to Campbell County Memorial if instructed to do so by your supervisor A First aid kit, in the service area, contains basic medical supplies.

Reporting Accidents Report ANY accidents immediately, the supervisor must file a report within hours of an incident. We can’t ensure adequate treatment and prevention of future accidents without the information.
