Computing Science - Level 2 Course Director: Dr Paul Cockshott Departmental Administrator: Teresa Currie Course Secretary: Gail Reat ( tel. Ext. 6042)
Computing Science - Level 2 Modules Six 10-credit modules Students aiming for single honours Computing Science single honours Software Engineering must take all six modules Students aiming for combined honours with Computing Science designated degree in Computing Science normally take all six modules
Computing Science - Level 2 Modules Semester 1 CS2R: Algorithmic Foundations (AF2) Lectures: and CS2T: Computer Systems (CS2) Lectures: Wednesday and CS2X: Data Structures & Algorithms (DSA2) Lectures: Tuesday and Assessed exercises during the course Degree examinations in January
Computing Science - Level 2 Modules Semester 2 CS2S: Functional Programming (FP2) Lectures: Wednesday and CS2U: Information Management (IM2) Lectures: and CS2Y: Software Design & Implementation (SDI2) Lectures: Tuesday and Assessed exercises during the course Degree examinations in May
Computing Science - Entry to Level 2 What do I need to gain entry? Grade C or better in both CS1P and CS1Q guarantees entry to all Level 2 CS modules Otherwise, if you obtain at least a grade D in both CS1P and CS1Q you will be considered on an individual basis When do I apply? As soon as you know your exam results certainly by 5 August at the latest.
Computing Science - Entry to Level 2 When will I know if I have been accepted? Immediately, if you achieve grade C or better in 1P and 1Q we won't even write to you Not until mid September if you're rejected we'll wait until all resit results are known But, we aim to consider most individual cases during August, and to issue additional acceptances as soon as we can Remember - Grade D is the best that can be achieved in a resit, unless it is classed as your first attempt
Computing Science - other Level 2 curricula Some students may wish to take only a subset of the modules DSA2 is compulsory CS1P is pre-requisite for all the modules DSA2 and SDI2 can be taken without CS1Q AF2 is a co-requisite for FP2
Computing Science - Level 2: ESE students take 5 CS modules (all but FP2) plus 7 Engineering modules (7 x 10 credits) Analogue Electronics 2 Digital Electronics 2 Electrical Circuits 2X Electrical Circuits 2Y Embedded Processors 2 Engineering Electromagnetics 2 Electronic Design Project 2 (Faculty of Engineering students take an additional 10 credits - Computer Architecture 2.)
