How do Population Demographics in the Bristol area affect social welfare? Learning Outcomess: All will investigate the demographic characteristics of different areas around Bristol Most will analyse these characteristics in relation to social welfare.

Social Welfare: the well-being of communities. It refers to the access that groups of people or individuals have to job opportunities, housing, health care, education, an unpolluted environment, a safe environment and freedom to practice ones culture, religion etc.

Now that you have the demographic and welfare data for two areas of Bristol you need to try to analyse this. TASK: In your table use the data to help you consider the following welfare issues: In some places there’s a tendency for wealthier families to move to particular areas because there are better schools. Does this lead to social segregation? Is this a problem? Some people have better access to cars than others. How does this affect peoples access to services? How does this affect peoples environments/health? In areas with a higher population density is their more crime? Why might this be? Are there other factors involved?
