1 Early Help Tipton Data Pack
Tipton Town Tipton town encompasses the wards of Princes End, Tipton Green and Great Bridge and is located in the NW of the Borough. Population Figures from the Census 2011 show that the population of the town has increased significantly (11.2%) in the last decade, well above borough average (8.9%). Total population was 38,777 in 2011. Levels of unemployment in Tipton are higher than the local, regional and national averages, particularly in Princes End and Tipton Green. The Census 2011 showed that Tipton town has the second highest proportion of residents with no qualifications (after Wednesbury) and the lowest proportion of residents with qualifications at degree level or above. Princes End Tipton Green Great Bridge NEETs The number of young people not in Education, Employment and Training (NEET) in Tipton are higher than in other towns. The three Tipton wards are consistently in the top 5 wards in Sandwell with the highest share of NEETs (a fifth of the Sandwell cohort. This is consistent with other datasets that show high levels of unemployment and low skills levels in Tipton.

There are 10,916 households with dependent children in Tipton, this is over a third of all the households in the town. 10% of those is a lone parent family, with Princes End having a higher than average proportion than the borough. The FACTS programme in Sandwell works with families who present complex problems and / or with children on the cusp of care. Of the 357 families eligible in the first year, 21% live in Tipton, with Princes End having the second highest share in the borough of the Year 1 cohort (7% of all FACTS families). Great Bridge and Tipton Green also have higher than average numbers of FACTS families than most wards (5.6% and 5.9% against ward average 4.2%) Domestic Violence For the past 3 years, Sandwell has had higher levels of domestic violence (DV) crime and domestic incidents than its neighbouring authorities. Tipton and West Bromwich present the higher number of referrals for adults, followed by Smethwick. In Princes End, 46% of the violent offences with injury have a DV marker attached. Sandwell Council’s Access Centre receives all notifications of domestic abuse where children are involved. Although the number of notifications decreased between 2011 and 2012, Tipton is still the second town with the most notifications after Smethwick. Princes End is the ward with the highest number of notifications in the borough. Although alcohol has been identified as one major factor in DV incidents, the number of referrals to DECCA from Tipton is relatively low compared with other towns.
