Drawing and Painting Fun - Carnival -

CARNIVAL CARNIVAL is a public celebration that takes place inmediately before the Christian Lent. It can be from January to March, it depends on each year.

This celebration has got some elements: costumes costumes, parades and street parties parties. There are lots of similar parties in the world.

The largest carnival celebration in the world is in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).

But there are more internationally famous carnivals: Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Spain), Cadiz (Spain), Venice (Italy), Barranquilla (Colombia)…

The longer is in Montevideo (Uruguay): it lasts the entire month of February !

There are many types of carnivals, but now we are going to know more about “The Carnival of the Animals” (Le Carnaval des animaux). Camille Saint-Saëns Following the music of Camille Saint-Saëns we can listen to the lions, chickens, turtles, kangaroos, donkeys and some more animals in a triumphal march.

It´s a fantasy made up of 14 small movements. The work is curious because it has got an unusual instrumentation: two pianos, two violins, a viola, a cello, a double bass, a flute, a clarinet, an accordion and a xylophone. With these instruments the composer describes all the animals.

PARTS OF THE WORK: 1. Introduction and Royal March of the lion. 2. Chickens and roosters. 3. Wild donkeys (fast animals). 4. Turtles. 5. The elephant. 6. Kangaroos. 7. Aquarius. 8. Characters with long ears. 9. The cuckoo in the dark of theforest. 10. Aviary. 11. Pianists. 12. Fossils. 13. The swan. 14. Final.

While we listen to the work, you will colour a sheet.
