NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON AGRICULTURE FOR RABI, (17 th & 18 th September 2014) Department of Agriculture Government of Manipur Group-I Management of Soil Health

Soil and Climate  Soil types in the State, Hill - red lateritic and valley- clay loam.  Soil contains small rock fragments, sand and sandy clay.  The top soil on the steep slopes are very thin.  In the plain areas, especially flood plains and deltas, the soil is of considerable thickness.  Soil on the steep hill slopes is subjected to high erosion  The normal pH value ranges from 5.3 to 6.8.  Normal rainfall – 1435 mm  Rainfall ranges from 933 mm at Imphal to 2593 mm at Tamenglong.  Temperature ranges from sub-zero to 36 degree Celsius.
