Tidal Power Blake Colyer

Tidal power turbines are like wind turbines but driven by the sea Water flows through the turbines, turning an electric generator to produce electricity. They only produce electricity for 10hours a day when the tide is flowing. La Rance Tidal Barrage in France can produce enough electricity to power 4% of homes in Britanny, France.

Extreme costs for setup and maintainence –When the La Rance Tidal Barrage was built in 1966, it cost approxiamtely 100 million dollars. But in todays money, it would cost over 10 billion dollars. –Approx. 8.5 cents/kwh No fossil fuel emissions Poses problems with marine life, and recreational activities New technologies involving turbines and improving design may increase efficiency and decrease costs
