Where is Jamaica?  Jamaica is east of Mexico, South of Cuba, North of Panama and West of Haiti.

The History Of Jamaica.  The Arawak & Taino indiginous people from South America lived in Jamaica lived between 4000 to 1000 BC.  Christopher Columbus landed and claimed Jamaica for the Spanish.  Columbus landed in Dry Harbour which is now called Discovery bay.

Facts about Jamaica.  1.Jamaica is the largest speaking island in the Caribbean.  2.Jamaica is the first country in the Caribbean to gain it’s independence.  3.Rum is the national drink of Jamaica.  4.Ian Fleming designed and built his house ‘goldeneye’, in Jamaica and wrote ten of his James Bond novels there.

Weather in Jamaica.  The weather in Jamaica in winter is 77 degrees F. At the summer months it’s about 82 degrees F.

Famous people from Jamaica  Robert Nesta ‘Bob’ Marley is a musician in Jamaica. He was born in February and died in may  Usain St. Leo Bolt is a Sprinter and three time gold medallist in the Olympics.

The flag of Jamaica. This is the flag of Jamaica, the yellow represents the golden sunshine, green is the lush vegetation and black represents strength and creativity.

The geography of Jamaica.  The size of Jamaica is 10,991 square kilometres. The tallest mountain in Jamaica is Blue Mountain Peak at 2,256 metres.

The Jamaican army.  The Jamaican Defence Force (JDF) is the combined military force of Jamaica, having an army, air wing and coast guard. JDF is based upon the British military.

The national day of Jamaica.  The national day of Jamaica is on the first Monday of August.(independence from the United Kingdom on the sixth of August 1963.)

More Interesting Facts  Snakes are rare in Jamaica because they were killed off by mongoose< imported to kill canefield rats.  The population of Jamaica is 2,652,443.  Jamaica was known as ‘xaymaca’ before Europeans came.

The animals in Jamaica.  The swallow tail humming bird. The swallow tail humming bird has over 320 species living in Jamaica and it is the national bird of Jamaica. The Jamaican crocodile the length of these crocs can reach up to 16 ft. and weigh up to 1000 pounds.

Main exports of Jamaica.  The main exports of Jamaica is Bauxite which is an aluminium ore.  Sugar is the main agricultural export.  Jamaica also exports Bananas (Mostly England and Europe) Yams (To the U.S and Canada) and coffee ( mostly to Japan although Blue Mountain coffee is prized throughout the world)
