DEFINITION Set of practices for IT Service Management (ITSM) Aligning IT Services with the needs of business ITIL describes processes, procedures, tasks, and checklists that are not organization-specific used by organization for establishing integration with organization’s strategy, delivering value and maintaining a minimum level of competency

HISTORY 1980 s : Need of ITIL emerged Established earliest version of ITIL called GITIM (Government Information Technology Infrastructure Management) 1990 s : Used in both government and non- government 2000: Microsoft used ITIL to develop Microsoft Operations Framework (MOF) 2001: Version 2 of ITIL released 2007: Version 3 of ITIL released
