Waste Management Reinis Kalnietis

Today, a very acute problem has become a wide variety of wastes - both municipal waste and chemical and hazardous waste. Waste - it is an environmental problem, which essentially affect any of us. To mitigate this problem, important for each country to develop a waste management plan and the plan to achieve in life.

Waste management in Latvia In recent years, Latvia has also drawn attention to the minimization, recycling, waste disposal, or begun to develop a systematic and sustainable waste management structure. Properly organized management system should provide information on key waste producers, waste and modified time - weekly, annual, five-year cycle

Latvian territory currently operates 252 landfills, 251 is closed. Of the 1998th and recultivated 55 landfills, the total area of them are 67.8 ha. All dumps total area is ha. Most of the landfills (77%) are less than 2 ha. The largest rubbish dump is a dump of Riga "Getliņi" - 35 ha.

Getlinu site in recent years is a very improved waste management, there is arranged to carry the waste treatment in line with European standards. The most important fact here is a collection of methane from the waste deposited and its use in energy production.

Latvian waste management main problems. Latvian municipal waste management main problems is the large number of waste dumps and their environmental impact. 1. water pollution 2. soil and landscape degradation 3. Illegal dumping of waste sites

Latvian every year are generated around thousand tonnes of waste from which 30% are commercial and institutional waste. Collected is only % waste. Waste management services are delivered to approximately 80% of urban population and only 20% of rural population. Waste collection and disposal of the urban service companies, of which 95% are local companies.

Waste sorting Separate waste collection system designed to gather various types of shared waste. To the traditional (common) collection of waste is much more difficult for future use. Therefore, it is sorted waste. In an environment where resource consumption is growing worldwide and amount is decreasing, becoming more profitable to produce new products out of recycled materials.

Latvian sorted waste collection system is still in place and in most cases it is available in large towns. We sorting waste by placing them in different colored containers. 1.Green meant clean and, preferably, unfractured glass bottles and jars 2.Yellow assignable to pure PET bottles, as well as clean and dry cardboard and paper packaging, newspapers, magazines, books and writing. 3.While the dark containers for other unsorted household waste.

Thank you for your attention!
