LUSD iPAD PILOT UPDATE A Presentation to the Board of Education Prepared by the Technology Department & iPad Pilot Participants February 21, 2012

How The iPad Pilot Started  51 Teachers submitted applications to be part of the pilot  6 Teachers where chosen to participate  230 iPads purchased - $193,000 Funding from Enhancing Education through Technology (EETT) and Microsoft K12 Voucher Program  Teacher training provided by Apple Distinguished Teacher

Classroom Participants  Bryn Lum; 9 th grade AP English – McNair  Charles Taylor; 7 th grade Social Studies – McAuliffe  Sonja Renhult; 5 th /6 th combo – Tokay Colony  Lisa Fromm; 6 th grade – Beckman  Chris Funge; 3 rd grade – Larson  Kim Loftin; 3 rd grade – Wagner Holt

Goals of the Pilot  Increase Student Engagement  Improve Student Achievement  Analyze the effectiveness of iPad (tablet) technology as a teaching and learning tool  Develop a tablet-supported curriculum model that can be utilized in other classrooms

Next Steps  Evaluate success of program based on goals and expectations  Present findings to Board at August/September meeting  Begin development of next phase of the iPad pilot program
