Create a double digit and decimal. Then pick 2 cards to create a decimal that is in hundredths place. Round 3- Pick 2 cards. Create a decimal that is in the hundredths place. Then pick 1 card to create a decimal in the tenths place. Partner- check your opponents work! The partner with the largest product at the end of activity wins match.

9/17/ A Estimate Quotients What operation?

Parts of a division problem

To estimate quotients of decimals, use rounding and compatible numbers.

- Compatible numbers: numbers that are easy to divide mentally

Example 1 Estimate 44.2  9 Using multiples of 9, 44.2 is closest to 45. The quotient is about 5.

Example 2 Estimate 72  8.3 Round 8.3 to 8 since 72 and 8 are compatible numbers. So, 72 ÷ 8.3 is about 9.

Example 3 The Chu family drove miles in 4 hours. Estimate the average number of miles they drove each hour. Justify your answer. Round to 160. The Chu family drove about 40 miles each hour.

4) The Jenkins family bought five tickets to a charity auction. The receipt shows the total cost of the tickets. Estimate the cost of each ticket. $61.25 Each ticket costs about $12

1)Estimate 54.1 ÷ 8.72) Estimate 123 ÷ 4.4 3) The average weight of a Florida panther is 64.2 kilograms. The average weight of a coyote is 14.8 kilograms. About how many times heavier is the panther? The panther is about 4 times heavier than the coyote. 30 6
