Wellington Zoo First zoo in New Zealand (estb 1906) 185,000 visitors 50% of Wellingtonians visit annually Zoo Capital Development Programme –$20.8m to redevelop the Zoo over 10 years ($15.6m from Council and $5.2m from Wellington Zoo Trust)

Looking at our business plans Approximately 6 years ago started looking at the environmental angle of zoo business –If cost effective it was implemented Environmental management survey (URS) Everyone supports Sustainability as part of our ethos and culture

Measure & Monitor Water, waste, and electricity –Monitor against baselines Challenges: Switched power suppliers at a cost saving of $25k Power consumption is on the rise due to new buildings Carbon emission grew as a result of composting (+23 tonnes but reduced need for trucks to dispose of rubbish and landfill)
