 Product : the answer to an multiplication problem.  Factor : any of the numbers multiplied together in an problem.  Grouping : the order in which numbers are grouped together in a problem.  Multiplicand : a number that is multiplied by another. Since the numbers in a multiplication problem can be put in any order, factor is a better term.

Introducing… The Properties of Multiplication!

The Distributive Property of Addition over Multiplication  The sum of two numbers, multiplied by a third number, is equal to th e sum of each addend times the third number.  For example:  4 x (6 + 3) = 4x6 + 4x3

The Commutative Property of Multiplication  When two numbers are multiplied together, the product is the same regardless of the order of the multiplicands/factors.  For example:  4 x 2 = 2 x 4

The Associative Property of Multiplication  When three or more numbers are multiplied, the product is the same regardless of the grouping of the factors.  For example:  (2 x 3) x 4 = 2 x (3 x 4)

The Additive Identity Property of Multiplication  The product of any number and one is that number.  For example:  5 x 1 = 5.

Zero Property  The product of any number and zero is zero. It doesn't matter what the number is, when you multiply it to zero, you get zero as the answer.  For Example:  2 x 0 = 0.
